2009 Wedding Trends

From 3arf

This may surprise you but one of the biggest trends for 2009 is about cutting back.

Does this mean less meaningful weddings? No, of course not! Where does it state that in order for a wedding to be memorable that it has to be expensive?

Couples today are looking more towards having a wedding that they can enjoy rather than stressing over having to pay for their wedding for the next 10 years.

Some of the ways to cut back are:

To have smaller weddings with fewer guests...after all, is it really necessary to have your cousin and her family of 6 from 300 miles away? You have not seen her since you were both 8 years old. And what about those neighbors of 15 years ago? Sure it would be nice to see them again, but instead, why not plan a trip to the old neighborhood sometime soon after the wedding? I'll bet that would make your neighbors feel all that much more special.

More couples are tending to let family and friends help out by providing some of the services. For example, your brother John is just learning to be a disc jockey so that he can do weddings and other events. Why not let him get some experience at your wedding? Since he would be amongst family and friends he would probably be much more relaxed and the experience would be beneficial to his future as a DJ.

Your aunt Mary used to operate a catering business...hmm.

Wedding Invitations can be very expensive. Brides are starting to look at designing their own and printing themselves on their home printers. Office supply stores often have generic wedding invitations that you can fill in the information yourself...a big savings! Take it a step further and decorate the generic invitations with ribbons, glitter, etc. The invitations are pretty and personal and more apt to be kept by the recipient as a keepsake.

If you are having your reception at a high-priced venue, try changing your wedding day to a Sunday. You may be able to get a better price than if you were to book on the traditional Saturday.

For your reception meal you may want to go for a buffet rather than a sit-down dinner. This will definitely be more economical.

Other trends for 2009 are:

Using cupcakes rather than the traditional Wedding Cake. These can be decorated beautifully and then stacked on a Lazy Susan to take the form of a Wedding Cake.

All-Inclusive Packages - this can mean many things but in the case of our Organization, we put together a Wedding Package that includes the ceremony performed by one of member Justices of the Peace, music, flowers for the bride, a toast of Champagne or Sparkling Cider (bridal couple's choice), and Wedding Cake or the above mentioned Cup Cake Array. Our all-inclusive is presented annually in New Hampshire by ourOrganizationon Valentine's Day.

Increased use of green and echo friendly products and services is very popular this year.

Trends are just guidelines of what other people are doing. If you're not comfortable with doing "what everyone else does" then set your own trends and enjoy!
