2009 Lincoln Mkx
Lincoln first entered the crossover market in 2007 with the introduction of the MKX. This CUV replaced the outdated Aviator, which shared similarities to the Ford Explorer, in hopes of capturing a younger following. Fast forward to 2009 the MKX has accomplished what it set out to do. In the newer model the Lincoln MKX has added some standard features as well as upgraded packages and options.
What's New
Lincoln has added chrome door handles, a universal garage door opener, and a power liftgate to the list of standard features. These are must haves for luxury SUVs. A new option that will be seen on more Lincoln vehicles is the voice activated navigation system with Sirius Travel link and the signature THX II audio system. This navigation system is a next generation system that works well with Microsoft's Sync handsfree system. The Sync system has helped to give Lincoln a place in the luxury market. New for 2009 are a few upgraded packages. A Monochrome Package a monotone look with a few new colors and an available ebony interior. The Ultimate Packages now adds ambient lighting which puts a little mood lighting into your evening.
The Techy Side
The new Lincoln MKX has its fair share of cool gadgets. Sync, which needs no introduction, is helping pave the way for handsfree communication devices and when mated to the navigation system adds convenience by giving you the ability to make a call to a restaurant to set up reservations using your phone while giving you turn by turn directions to get there. Another neat feature of the navigation is a partnership with Sirius and its Sirius Travel Link. The Sirius Travel Link allows you to find the nearest fuel stations, weather, and even the movie listings and sports scores. You can set your destination to that particular fuel station as well. The MKX also has adaptive headlamps, this allows you to virtually see around a dark corner as you drive at night. It will swivel the headlamps in the direction you are about to go. The panoramic Vista Roof is offered as an option on the Lincoln MKX giving the CUV a front sunroof and a fixed rear moonroof. A wow in luxury.
Affordable Luxury
Lincoln's stance has been to be able to provide luxury at an affordable price. The Lincoln MKX stays within that vision by offering a base model luxury CUV in the lower forties. If you want all the options it's not a far walk as you will go to the upper forties included all wheel drive. Lincoln's warranty includes a twelve month or twelve thousand mile complimentary maintenance program, a four year or fifty thousand mile "bumper to bumper" warranty, and a six year or seventy thousand mile warranty which includes twenty four hour roadside assistance. Lincoln makes good on a promise to manufacture affordable vehicles in the luxury segment and standing by them for the long haul.
The Lincoln MKX competes in a tough segment that has grown over the last few years. Its competitors are the likes of the Lexus RX 350, Cadillac SRX, Infiniti FX35, and the Acura MDX. Lincoln's price point and standard features like heated and cooled seats, six speed transmission, and available heated rear seats give the MKX a chance to get its unfair share of the segment's pie. The MKX is not only a competitor it could emerge a leader.
