1982 Suzuki Gs650
The black and red liveried 1982 Suzuki GS650 holds the classic shape and class of the 1980's well. Designed and manufactured by one of the world's best motorcycle corporations, located inb Japan, the GS 650 had all the makings of a future classic from the day the first one glided into the showroom. Bred from a long line of Suzuki 650 cc classics and classed as a sports bike, the GS650 is capable of reaching speeds of just a shade over 122 mph. Although this may not seem fast in terms of top speed today, in its time riding this bike flat out was send shivers of excitement up the spine of the most hardened biker.
The GS 650 GL had a uniqueness about it that was difficult not to admire. With its raised rear passenger seat and wrap around handle bars one could almost be forgiven for wondering what it would be like to let it loose on across country. Perhaps it was the faint resemblance to the Harley that made this bike so attractive to the leather clad throng. Or maybe it was simply the fact that this was a real muscle bike, one to be proud of. Who can say?
However, what can be said about this bike is that it was built for comfort as well as speed, and that comfort extended to the rear passenger as well. Twin exhausts that emitted a car-like purr when idling, but turned into the growl when being driven hard reminded the rider that he had a big cat beneath him. Safety was also considered, with disc brakes front and rear providing a great level of trust and confidence between man and machine. It feels safe because it is safe.
The one slight drawback of the Suzuki GS650 is that it is a little high maintenance compared with other bikes in its class. Service and repair costs that can create an "ouch" unless you take really good care of your machine. However, this should not present a problem to the dedicated motorcyclist, who enjoys nothing more that caressing the parts of his or her favourite machine at any opportunity. Those who look after their bikes know how to reduce the maintenance costs.
Even today, twenty five years after its birth, a well looked after 1982 Suzuki GS 650 would take pride of place at any motorcycle bar or rally and is guaranteed to turn the heads of more than a few of the fairer sex. For those who want to own a real bike, taking possession of the Suzuki GS 650 fits the bill and, what is more, it will make you the envy of all your biker friends.
